Solo, I live in PA too. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I still open my windows even if it's cold, I just toss on a hoodie. I've found it helps my mood to get some sun and fresh air too.

I looked up the actual brand of filter I have and it's a Holmes HEPA filter: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.jardenstore.com/products.aspx?pgsz=9&bid=14&cid=1701
">http://www.jardenstore.com/pro...gsz=9&bid=14&cid=1701
</a>
I think it works great, especially for being under 50$, you just have to change the filters on it every 6 months. Oh also make sure you vacuum frequently. If there is a lot of dust that's kicked up from your heating system, it helps to get that out of the carpet asap. (or dust/sweep if you have a hardwood floor. swiffers are great)

I didn't read all of the posts but if you or the landlord could change the furnace fileter, that might help.
In my house now, I hire someone to come clean. That way I'm not the one stirring up dust and such. By the time I come home, the house is clean and nice! I only do this once a month, I keep up with it the rest of the time but that deep down clean does help control dust around here.

I agree - my first thought was to try changing the filter. I also wanted to mention that my cf clinic strongly opposes using humidifiers. They say that lots of bugs can grow in the water used and then you end up inhaling them. I don't know how true this is - maybe some other clinics have differing opinions?? Just thought I should throw it out there as a possible caution.

Wow bugs, that doesn't surprise me. I clean my humidifier ever three days. Filling once a day. The extra moisture is great for helping me to stay loose, ( my secretions that is), The humidier also has a filiter in it. I change that every 2 weeks. Maybe that takes care of the bugs. I dont see a rise in coughing at all just production. I will keep it in mind though and reask around the clinics. I imagine that cleaning the humid is very important so that bugs and other foriegn matter doesn't build up. I also wonder about using sterile water. That may be something I could consider. Thanks for the mention. NO one in my Allergy clinic knew anything about them. I think they really should do some research on them. Nationalallergy.com is where I get all my stuff.

You all are such an invaluable source for me.

God Bless

MMMMbugs for lunch, yummmm.
