Its funny you bring that up Lauren, i always wondered (since my hemoptysis seems to coincide with my menstrual cycle) , if menopause would help lessen the hemoptysis. Anyone out there with hemoptysis problems go thru menopause ? Did it help at all?

Hi,

My name is Becki. I am 31 years old and have had hemoptysis since I was around 18. The last few years have been bad. I've had 3 embolizations, the last being in November 06. Even after that embolization, I was bleeding every day about 1/4 cup per bleed. I read that Pulmozyme can aggravate it, so I stopped the Pulmozyme completely. The bleeding has stopped completely--no streaks, no nothing. It has been almost 2 months now which is a record for me. Strangely, now I can lay on my back to do crunches without it bothering me at all. I still sleep on my side, but have woken up on my back a few times.

The doctor thinks that Pulmozyme was the problem. I hope so, because I feel so free now. I'm not constantly worrying about where or when it is going to happen.

By the way, my bleeding was completely unrelated to my menstrual cycle. It also had nothing to do with infection. I always felt completely fine and my white count was good. Also, after a clean out at the hospital, I could still come home and have blood.

Hope this helps~
