High FEV1? Might not be the whole story

I think Cindy brings up a really good point about docs reliance on FEV1 as an indicator of IV time. I have a doctor who listens to me and will start me even if my FEV1 does not indicate it at that visit and sure enough my FEV1 catches up with my symptoms; but, in the mean time we have gotten the ball rolling. I think it is important for us to communicate well to our doctors and know when things are not right regardless of FEV1. Thanks for pointing that out Cindy.

Interesting article. I have a hard time reading stats like that and understanding but basically what I took was that you can have some serious issues with your lungs even if your numbers are excellent? It's been along day of walking and my arse is exhausted!!!!

I think it is great to inform parents of youngsters to be proactive in the care of their children. And this (if I read it and the responses right) proves it.

I also agree that the dr should look at everything when deciding about ivs. I know even now that my FEV1 has gone up a few points I still get SOB so that there is somehting there that is not fixed.

Thanks for this article!!!!

Interesting! I have seen that somewhere before (not that particular link) that showed the catscan of someone with over 100% FEV1, who still had lung damage (very similar to the examples they showed). That was a bit of a downer, to say the least, but also encouragement to stay compliant. Thanks <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> !
