marla,
my son was treated in the beginning for 4months and he could no longer tolerate the meds, amikican, pramaxin, tagycil, so we stopped and were symptoned free for 4months and we again began the therapy, he could only tolerate it that 2nd time for 12 weeks, so we stopped and he had been sympton free for 1 year. His PFT's began to drop so we are trying again the same therapy, he is also on zithromax, zyvox orally. Mycrobacterium abscessus cannot be cured you can only hope to keep it at bay, please know that this is what unc has told us, your son's case may be different, our doctor is constantly in touch with the jewish hospital who specializes in this bug, we feel fortunate to be doing as well as we are, please pm me if you have any questions and I'll be happy to talk with you, I will pray for your son and wish you much success. Hope
