Hospital birth questions

Wow, sounds like there's a bit of conflicting things based on what you guys said. Some of you were lucky enough to be in the same hospital as your CF admissions, so you knew they would have everything there you'd need while others didn't even bother to let the staff know of your CF meds/therapies. I think that's the route I will take. The hospital I am going to does have inpatient CF care (less than 50 CF patients that go there for care). A very small number of CFers in my opinion. I don't want to have to deal with the problems that come along with them not bringing meds on time, etc. I doubt I'll actually be doing CPT (I use the Flutter) during my stay, especially if I have a vaginal birth, because I skip it from time to time when I'm busy, on vacation, etc. If I have a c-section it might be a different story though because I'll want to keep my lungs clear to avoid pneumonia...although they'll end up giving me one of those incentive spirometers, so I might just use that instead! If my OB brings up my CF meds/treatments to me before the delivery then we'll discuss it, otherwise I think I'm just going to keep it on the DL that I'm bringing all my stuff in.

Thanks everyone!

I brought my nebs and albuterol with me but nobody at my non-CF hospital made sure I was given treatments. DH asked me at one point if I wanted to neb and I told him no because I had a c-section and couldn't cough. I was really dried out and would have benefited from hypertonic saline.

I delivered Abi in the Maternity hospital and they had no clue about Cf etc. I took all my own meds in even my own neb compressor and the nurses were quite happy I was self medicating they just signed my drug chart off as self. I'd def keep your enzymes with you if nothing else as in previous admission when I haven't been on a Cf ward etc it has been a nightmare to try get the nurses to give me my creon when its been locked up and they say it has to be written up for a certain time!
Good luck!

ok. well i'm the non-compliant one and did not bring anything!!!!

i just recently got back on enzymes and i wasn't being too compliant while i was pregnant and i did not feel like bringing anything to the hospital. not a good thing at all.

the doctors around here have no clue about cf, its ridiculous.

i'm not sure how all of that would work, but if we have another i will definitely bring everything.
