Hospital Stay

This is my second time going into hospital for iv antibiotics. My fv1 went down and hasn't gone up after doing cipro orally and tobi neb. So Dr. wants to treat aggressively and go into hospital. But now dry weather has come through and my lungs feel clear despite some weezing (I am firm believer in weather/my health have something in common). I am scheduled to go in tomorrow and I feel so silly b/c I'm not hacking up my lungs. My family wants me to take care of myself because I tend to put my health to the side. I guess I just feel like if I don't feel sick why should I go into the hospital?

Just because you arent hacking up a lung doesnt mean you dont need iVs. I do agree that weather can aggrivate/improve things. I feel worse & sound worse when it rains, but that doesnt mean with a drop in lung function that I wouldnt need intervention.

I agree with Melissa. If you are feeling less junky maybe you will get out sooner, but the drop in FEV1 needs to be addressed. Listen to your family <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">

IV Antibiotics

Sometimes an infection is so subtle and the decline in health is so gradual that you may not "feel sick" when in fact you really are. We CFers have the ability to adapt ourselves pretty well to push ourselves hard, even when our bodies are being mauled by bacterial infection. I'm always amazed when I finish an course of IVs how much better I feel because in most cases I never realize until it's almost too late how sick I've become.

The fact that you're NOT coughing may be even further proof that you do need IVs. Perhaps that mucus in there has gotten so thick with infection that it's not being cleared out properly. I hope it goes well for you this time around. Treat yourself right!
