I know it's absolutely no fun being in the hospital but sometimes you just have to do it. CF can be very sneaky and you can feel really good but have crappy pft's. So I agree with everyone you should go in. It's not something that's just going to go away. Which I know you know.

I am glad that the docs are trying to nip this in the bud before it becomes a hacking up a lung issue. I tend to not cough up stuff if my mucous is too thick to come up. AFter a few days of IV's I am always surprised with how much stuff I am bringing up, it is as if a dam breaks and up comes what has been hiding in those lower lobes.
I pray that you are out soon, hugs Jenn <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Well I went in to the hospital for iv antibiotics. I feel much better and got my Pft's up where they needed to be. I do have a question though; I work at a school as an aid for a Kindergarten class. I have a pic line and doing the home meds thing. Should I take off work until my course of antibiotics are done and my pic is out? Due to any crud I could get at the school or children accidently hurting my pic line? Plus, I was told by case manager that I can't go to work if I have home care meds. If I have to go to work then my ins. will pay for an infusion center to administer antibiotics. I opted for home care for convenience because I have a very busy schedule with two children and I am by myself a lot b/c my husband is a Fireman.

In addition, last time I went in to get iv antibiotics I helped out in my sons Kindergarten class and after I was done with the meds I got sick. It was so frustrating to get sick again after the course of antibiotics. Any advice ?

I'm confused, why wouldn't you be able to work while doing home IVs? I did and it was great! I don't know about you but I couldn't afford to take 2 weeks off. I would just make sure that your tubing is held down good and wear a long sleeved shirt to keep from catching it on things. You could show the kids the PICC line, let them know you have it because you have to take special medicine and that its very important for them not to touch your arm.

As far as picking up a bug, just wash your hands a lot and get really friendly with hand sanitizer. It would also be a good time to teach the kids about hand washing.
