Hospital visit

I know I haven't been on here in ages.  I know just1more is here still.

Tom and M were life flighted to Atlanta this evening.  M started puking blood at 3pm.  He's one of the lucky 12% with liver disease from his CF.  AFAIK, Heptalogist is very certain this is a ruptured esophagial varcise.  They intend to take him into surgery and bind off all the varcises they find.

I don't know when they took off, when they'll arrive in Atlanta.  just1more had no cell reception.  I did see their copter show up as I left the ER to go home with the other kiddos.

No one is absolutely certain this is coming from the stomach and not the lungs.  His CF doctor was debating hospitalizing him for a lung infection when he saw him Thursday.  He wanted to give him the weekend on Levaquin before he decided.  I'm absolutely certain when he finds out M's been admitted by Heptalogist, he's going to keep him for a tune-up anyway.  It's been 2.5 years since he had one of those and his CF doctor has been remindnig me every visit since February that its been a LONG time now.

I really don't know more right now.  I keep thinking they should be in Atlanta soon and hopefully Dh will contact me and tell me what is going on.  I just wanted to notify the board here.

Sometimes CF sucks.  Tonight it sucks really badly!

Ok, we made it ok. My first helicopter ride, not bad took 50 min to go what takes 2.5hrs by car.

Nobody has decided where the blood came from....lungs or gi. Thus no clear plan to address yet other than they flew us to Atlanta and we are sitting in an ER room again.

Morning update: no more visible blood but we are waiting on hepatology to decide if they want to endoscope him and look for varices, or if they think it is hemoptysis and belongs to the CF team to deal with.

Apparently, it is something called Mother's Day and nobody wants to have to work today; so we are sitting around NPO waiting on them to decide what to do next.

Well, have had had an abdominal ultrasound w/ Doppler (to check the level of portal hypertension) and started IV's.

We are doing: Merenopem (Merrem) & Ceftazidime (Fortaz) every 8 hours IV; and Levaquin IV 1x/day.

He is scheduled for a endoscopy tomorrow to look for and band any varices; and they are expecting pulmonology to probably do a bronch while he is asleep. They are also going to insert the PICC during the same sedation so we get it all done in one fell swoop.

Here's to a successful multi-Dr session in the morning so we can get stable and get moving towards home!
