I know you want a serious answer, but at this stage of my life, if you can afford to hire someone do it.. Keeping motivated is a hard one as there are many of us that work hard to keep ourselves well, and we still get hit with a fall out at times. Do the things that you can handle on a day to day basis, if the laundry needs to be done and the washer and dryer are down the basement, maybe yr. husband can carry them up and down? I tired the cooking but my husband is much better at it so he covers that. I also try to do at least one thing a day, dust, vaccum, pay bills. Many years ago my health was better, so now I am in slow mode. Never miss a trement to do a household chore, that will always be there the next day. Also share the household duties with yr. husband. Most times they will help out. Goof Luck Pat-55/CF

Hi Khristina,

Thanks a bunch for posting this question. I really hope you get some replies because this is something I struggle with myself. I have been a "housewife" now for almost two years. I find that I actually seem to get LESS done around the house now than I did when I was working! I don't know what it is. Ugh.

I don't really have any tips but I take care of basically everything home related. I clean, do laundry, pay the bills, grocery shop, and do about 1/2 the cooking. Thankfully my husband is a wonderful cook and he actually enjoys it so we split that one! lol.

I've been thinking that I need to come up with designated days of doing specific chores and such, but I'm not a very organized person and have never got around to doing it. I hope maybe some others out there have tips for us! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I think the key is being organized.

I am a stay-at-home mom to a 19 month old hurricane and in addition I do all of the cleaning, laundry and cooking, not to mention daily exercise and being 100% compliant with treatments.

Everyday, I write a list of things I want to accomplish from highest to lowest priority. Don't make the list too big, or you'll defeat yourself before you start.

Laundry I do almost everyday. Get in the habit of putting a load in when you get up.

I tend to make one day my cleaning day and work on it all day. Whatever doesn't get accomplished I finish on Saturday when my husband can watch our son.

However, if that doesn't work, I used to have a daily clean list. For example, Monday change the beds, Tuesday dust, Wednesday run the cleaner, Thursday do a bunch of laundry, Friday clean the bathrooms, etc. It only took 15-20 minutes each day, so it really wasn't a big deal. I just got sick of cleaning everyday and so now spend a day at it.

Make it work to fit your schedule and do the best you can. Nobody will die if you don't get around to dusting that week. The idea is to have a goal and do your best to accomplish it.

You could even set up a reward system for yourself for meeting a certain number of goals that week. (Hubby treats you to dinner if you get the cleaning done, etc)

Anyway, that's how I do it. It will be interesting to see how others reply.

SAHM of a 3 yr old. Something that I'm really trying to do is just let it all go. That may sound like the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish!-But actually since making the effort to do this, I think I'm getting more done.
I would be so tired by 11:00 am and just feel overwhelmed at everything I had to do that nothing would ever get done and plus I'd feel guilty all day.
Now if I'm too tired-I let myself sit, rest or try to find something to do where I can sit. Instead of feeling guilty about it which makes my day miserable. Each day I make a list with small reachable goals.
Instead of thinking I'm going to organize the kitchen cabinets, clean the fridge out, and cook dinner-I pick one thing and only think about that one thing I have to do and not "everything". And don't look around the whole house at once-its too overwhelming!
Take one small area at a time.
If I have energy to do more, great. If not, doesn't matter.
There's always tomorrow.
And I agree with Pat too-when its really out of hand and I'm just way too tired...I make the call for the local maid service. I'm just at the point where I won't beat myself for needing help when I've really reached my limit.

Some people feel a sense of reward keeping the house. I don't really enjoy it or find it rewarding. Don't get me wrong I like a clean, orderly house but I don't feel real proud if I accomplish it over someone else doing it.

What works for me is having things going on in my life that make me really proud and that I enjoy doing. I am on the board of the Women's club in charge of Membership. I am also very involved with the CFF. I recently started planning a new Great Strides walk in my area. Additionally, I enjoy building friendships and teaching my son how to be a good friend. I am in charge of the Sunshine group for the Neighbors and Newcomers group through which I organize meals to be delivered to new mom's homes and send cards when someone dies, etc. Finally, I just finished planning an Art Festival for our town through the Women's Club. I pick and choose activities and responsibilities that fit my lifestyle and cf well. One's that are flexible timing wise and if not then I make sure I'm a co-chair or that someone is available to "back me up."

Most of my time goes to raising my son. Each day I try to either take him to an enriching activity or have a fun activity at home. I have to get out of the house once a day though even if it's just to pick up milk.

The only thing I do every day to do with the house is make dinner or make plans to go out :) My dh lays out the menu on the weekend and we go shopping for any ingredients we don't have. He also takes stuff out of the freezer to thaw it throughout the week. Additionally, I start laundry and pick up around the house as I have time, energy and as needed.

Also, set in stone are my treatment times- morning and evening and afternoon if I have ANY increase in cough. Exercise has happened 3 times a week in the AM but is not currently happening. I need to realign my life to make that a priority.
