I don't even know what my fev is, actually this is probably a dumb question, but what is fev?</end quote></div>

fev1 stands for <u>forced expiratory volume within 1 second</u>. When you do a pft and they tell you to blow out as fast and hard as you can, thats your fev1. When they tell you to keep going till you basically cant go anymore....that would be your fvc ....<u> forced vital capacity</u>.</end quote></div>

Thankyou Diane. Next time I go to my clinic I will see what my fev is, and my fvc.

Lost 2% after that last hospital trip. My fev's have stayed at around 34% for the last 7 years. Fev1 was 32% recently but I feel fine<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif" border="0">

I would have to say that I consider myself MODERATE. I mean we all definitely have our good (milder) days and our bad (severe) days. I have very much noticed my health move from the MILD to the MODERATE category in the past 5-6 years. I usually get sick to the point of needing IV/PICC meds, once maybe twice a year (depending on the year). The rest of the time I do my treatments, take my vitamins, and eat right. All of that work only gets me so far sometimes though, sometimes you catch a bug no matter what you do. My lungs are holding their own at 65-70%, but other CF related complications have made my life more difficult. I have horrible sinuses (get multiple sinus infections a year), arthritis, osteopenia, migraines, and possibly even some depression going on. I have just made peace with knowing that the older I get, the harder I'm going to have to fight and try to stay active and healthy. But I'm not going down without a fight!

I would say I am severe.

A year or two ago I would have said moderate. I dont know what my current PFTs are since there is always a reason I cant do them. The last one was done upon discharge of the hospital in September (still not at my best) & it was 30% which was down from 33% in April of that year.

I dont just base mine on my pfts tho. My quality of life, my weight, the amount of hospitilizations & how I generally feel are included in my thoughts. Granted some days are better then others, but still severe IMHO.
