Hi Marla,
It's so hard when they are babies. Colds usually last 7-10 days. Since it has been 2 1/2 weeks; and she is coughing; I would call. Could be she needs a different antibiotic or longer course of antibiotic. I also have found Bactrim not to do much of anything for Maggie's staph areus. When she cultured it, she had 14 days of Duricef and I noticed a difference in just a few days. Do you have a copy of the sputum culture report so you know what she is sensitive to? If not you can request it be mailed to you. Just one control freak habit I've picked up so you know, what your options are for anti's. When Maggie gets a cold with a cough I up her VEST(chest PT) time. Also, I may throw in an extra albuterol neb. I use Simply Saline 3% nasal spray(it's over the counter) and squirt it up her nose to get the boogers out. Babies are harder, their nostrils are so small. THose blue nasal aspirators may help suck the boogers out, but I didn't use that much on Maggie. I would give her warm bath, that seemed to get mucus flowing. Anyway, hang in there. One thing I've found to be fantastic for Maggie's cold is the 7% hypertonic saline neb, they aren't using that yet on babies but it sure does get the gunk out. Something to keep in mind as your baby gets older. Maggies' been on it over a year.
