How much do you cough?

We were talking about this a few nights ago in chat....well it was mentioned and it got me curious.

How often do you cough? All the time, rarely? Sometimes not at all during the day? Have you always coughed, or when you were younger did you go days without coughing?

I know for me I cough every 5-10 minutes. Sometimes more, sometimes less but that is my average. These are just regular coughs, no spasms or fits. I have coughing fits in the afternoon and after walking anywhere - even just to the bathroom. I asked my mom and she said I coughed almost from day one. That is why they thought I had severe allergies for so long. Then when I was dx'd they understood the coughing. I can not remember a single day in my life where I have not coughed.

I think I vaguely remember a similar post when I first joined but I don't have the time to search it out so I started a new one

I am curious to see how other CFers are when it comes to their coughs.

Right now I cough about that often too - maybe once every 5-10 minutes. But honestly, that's just a guess. I think most of us are pretty oblivious to our coughs if they are just normal ones. The only time I "notice" my coughs are if I get a bad spell or I'm sitting somewhere trying not to cough, like a nice quiet movie theatre.

The big thing for me that changes is triggers. When I'm sick if I walk up a flight of stairs it usually ends up with a coughing spell so bad I throw up. When I'm well I cough maybe once or twice after steps. Laughing and crying too - if I'm sick and have a good laugh, I usually cough so much I turn red/blue/other colors. Then laugh more at the coughing, then cough more.. haha.

Edit: Oh and I think I coughed from the beginning as well. I don't remember a day where I haven't coughed.

I used to cough all the time, literally all the time. Since I started Zithro in the summer it greatly diminished but it was still there. Then it started coming back more in Dec-mid Feb and I went on abx last week. I finished them today. I know once they're out of my system the coughing will start again though!

I've coughed mayne twice since I woke up? Who knows though honestly...

I am so glad your bringing this subject up...Rickie has coughed non-stop from the beginning as well. He has slowed down tremendously after being diagnosed and put on treatments. Our new cf doctors said his baseline will be no coughing! They are not happy unless he isn't coughing. He was on IV meds for three weeks and still is on bactrim, he stopped coughing for about a week or so and now he's starting up again (not as much)

Is this normal?
