how much do you miss from work?

iamqueenofeverything, how can you only work three days when you are a teacher? I would love that. I am a teacher also but I have to work 5 days. I have missed 4 days this year but that is with me going to work with pneumonia. I worked with my IV which I will never do again. My boss understands but I work in a private school so I feel bad if I miss a lot and they have to pay for subs.

I would love to hear how your teaching schedule is, as I would like to look into that<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Teaching is hard with us CFers!

Now that I am taking better care of myself I am not sure how often I will get sick, it has been less so far.

Last year was atrocious because I missed for IVF, then complications, then pregnancy and complications, then CF. I exceeded my 12 weeks a rolling 12mo period. MY employer was so understanding they wrote a letter granting me 'extended FMLA for pre-existing condition' (note this was not a national or even company hting just my HR lady and boss) and continued to pay me for it!

Normally though I miss about 3 days when on IV's (that is going to change to the entire 2 weeks but I may work PT from home), and when I get a cold or such that I am afraid is going to my chest I take a day off and do intenstive therapies to try and kepe it out and rest up to prevent getting really sick.

I am very very fortunate to work for such a large company, though they have their disadvanteges being a CF'er I feel the advantages are definately in my favor.

I teach in a preschool that is only open for 3 days. I teach 3 year olds. The young ones need only a small amount of school at that age.

I was fortunate that i got this job. The year before i cam, the school had twin boys who had CF so the school new my situation already.

The other reason has been because I've worked on a weekend and need those days for my own r and r.
The last company I worked at for a 12 year period, it seemed they had a policy which we had our days off available, but it was some sort of sin to take one. The ex seemed to support that idea because she'd b**ch me out just for taking one if I wasn't sick...she'd b**ch me out when I was sick anyway, so I didn't start using all those banked-up holidays til after the divorce and I was opening my door for opportunity (before quitting the job for a better one!)
The company policy here (at my new job) supports taking days off, and no unnecessary overtime (which is great!), but my new wife supports the holidays off, as well (obviously)!
