How often do you sterilize nebs?

Aidan' nebs are boiled twice every day. We boil them after every use. Of ocurse there have been many times where we totally melt them and lose a pot in the process because we forget. We've since bought a very loud timer! It goes off and Aidan yells, "nebs done". No pots have been lost since.

Vinny does 3 nebs a day, and we have five, so after we use it once I put it in a bowl on the counter. Once I've used them all (every 2 days) I soak them in the bowl in hot soapy water, then boil for 10 min, then air dry on paper towels. So I use each one once before washing/boiling.

Is it necessary to use the soap & water AND boil for 10+ minutes? I would think the boiling alone would sterilize them?

-- it is wonderful !! we just wash as usual and stick them in there and it dries and sanitizes at the same time -- we don't have to worry about drying them in the open air with paper towels on top anymore.

How does it work? Just high heat?

Many of these devices kill common bacteria, but struggle to kill more virulent bugs like PA so I want to check it out before I buy <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

it is because the medicine gets stuck to the sides of the neb. washing it off with soap and water will dislodge it.

if you boil, you may kill the germs in the neb, but there still may be dried medicine stuck to the sides.

but i see where you're coming from.... washing nebs can really be time consuming! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-confused.gif" border="0">

i always wash them in hot soapy water right after use and then at end of night boil them for 10 minutes set of 6 nebs,3 sets for am meds and 3 sets for pm meds.I am ordering then germ sanitizer thank you alyssa for recommending it ....i now will save time...ty ty...

Alyssa, do you know if the germ sanitiszer is the same as the baby bottles sterilizer, because they look exactly the same.
The one i have is an Avent bottle sterilizer that you fill with a little water, click the lid in and throw in the microwave on high for 2mins.

It steams it up so much that you can't even open it straight after its done. Its recommnded you leave the lid on for about 10 mins until it cools down. I used it foe Olivia's milk bottles when she was a baby.

She doesn't do nebs as yet, but i figured it would do the same job. On the plus side, its a lot quicker to use then any other sterilizer system and can also be picked up for around $30, although mine was about $60.

Please let me know what your thoughts are on this.

I guess you could look up avent microwave sterilizer on the net , and check it out.
see what you think.

Edited to add - instructions say that if the lid is kept on that they are sterile for up to 3 hrs and a few others have mentioned that once they are fully dry you put them in the fridge and that stay sterile for up to 24hrs.
I guess with nebs, its not needed as they are used much more often. lol

It states that leaving them on the counter just contaminates them again with air born bacteria. Thats what i just read.
