I have been having trouble having a bowel movement the past couple of days. I have had some pretty good pain with it also. I have had this before and it went away .Every time I have had it is when i have my period . I went to my PCP and got a pelvic and ultrasound of my ovaries. Came out fine no growths. Now he wants to do a colonoscopy.I have never had a blockage before . I am not throwing up . I am a little sick to my stomach but no more than usual. The pain is in my right side and into my back it goes away with ibuprofen. I am having somewhat of a bowel movement b/c of the milk of magnesia. But they are not the normal i usually have. Should I take the meds that are suggested on here for blockage. I really don't trust the PCP he doesn't know that much about CF.

If the pain comes in waves on a consistent basis, you need to get the CF doc to notify the ER that you're coming or just go to the ER. They will do x-rays at the least and a contrast CT scan and/or gastrografin enema at the most. For me, a WARM gastrografin enema always clears me out because I have a very high blockage when I get one.

My general rule is NOTHING will unblock me from the top and nothing less than 1/2 a gallon from the bottom.

If you're having a little movement, then I'm not so sure it's a blockage, but you may have a little clearance in yours. Waves of pain is the key. It means the movement of the intestines is being impeded.

With DS he had stomach flu-like symptoms. It started with vomiting, then he stopped stooling. He developed a bit of a fever. When he complained of pain, we took him to the doctor and they thought he might have an appedicitis, but determined with an ultrasound and xrays that he had an obstruction.

There is something called meconium equivilant, where stool gets bogged down in the colon. Yet stooling sometimes still occurs albeit very loose as it's what gets thru the partial blockage obstruction. We've only used milk of magnesia in the past and that's done the trick after a day or so. Have you tried Miralax, which is the same concept as milk of mag. Draws liquid from the colon to get things lubricated and moving again.

My CF doc called me in some miralax hope it does the trick. And I still have to get the colonoscopy . That's what I was trying to get out of. But I have a history of colon cancer in my family, so I'll do the darn thing. I do think it is blockage by what you guys have described . I just didn't know b/c I am 45 and never had blockage ,so the first thing I thought was colon cancer. Thanks for your help once again everyone

Have him do an ultrasound of your gallbladder cause the pain your described and location could be gallstones. Ultrasound is ALOT less invasive than colonoscopy too. Ask him about gallstones.

Hope you feel better soon and find some relief!

Could gall stones cause me to not be able to have bowel movements. I have been taking the miralax since 11:00 am yesterday . I had a real watery bowel movement yesterday right after I took the miralax , but nothing today and i took it last night. I am afraid to eat don't want it to back up anymore. Most of the pain is in my lower back and tenderness on both sides now right under the hip bone . Also running a low grade fever for about 2 weeks now. CF Doc says that is from the cepacia , but I am not coughing any more than usual. My mom had gall stones when i was little. How long does this miralax take to unstop me ?

IMO, you should probably go in and have an ultrasound and/or xrays. When DS had his obstruction last summer, they said his symptoms were similar to an appendicitis, so they checked for that.

He had a fever, vomited anything he ate, stopped stooling, and his tummy was hard and he said it hurt.
