According to my pharmacist, Cipro was taken off the market. Now granted, I haven't re-ordered this drug in over 2 years but I had started taking it from an old supply that remained fresh and now want to continue the regimen but my pharmacist is still busy trying to track it down in various pharmacies around town!

</end quote></div>

Wow I would be very scared to trust that person with my medication....

Not only is Cipro still on the market, but it's manufactured by SEVERAL different companies.

For future reference you can see medication recalls on the FDA's website... so you don't have to wait for people to reply on the forum (I'm all about teaching people to fish as opposed to catching fish for them daily <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> )

I wonder if he was thinking of gatifloxacin? That was taken off the market a few years ago because it caused high blood sugars.

But cipro is pretty common- he should have known.

Just FYI that there have been some discontinuations. See here for American Society of Health Pharmacists bulletin from 1/8/2010: <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.ashp.org/Import/PRACTICEANDPOLICY/PracticeResourceCenters/DrugShortages/GettingStarted/CurrentShortages/Bulletin.aspx?id=572
">http://www.ashp.org/Import/PRA.../Bulletin.aspx?id=572
</a>
I would think there'd be a work around but I also know that sometimes drug stores can only order from one supplier.

Wow, so based on the link you put up, looks like Cipro 500 and Cipro 750 has been discontinued. That's what my pharmacist was saying. He spent most of yesterday canvassing other pharmacies and ended up sending me Cipro 250. I wouldn't change my pharmacist for anybody! Poor guy was going nuts trying to help me.

Thanks you guys for all your helpful info. So sorry if I freaked any of you out (I must admit I was!).
