hypertonic saline vs. pulmozyme

I hope they aren't serious about swapping HTS for Pulmozyme, instead of adding it in. I also have done Pulmozyme since the studies in 1992, too, and I really think it has helped. I have also noticed that if I do my Pulmozyme after my HTS and my vest, I cough up more during the day (I've been experimenting the last few weeks with which works better for me ).

Pulmozime works to break up the mucus in the lungs, when it gets stuck there it gets dna spewed all over it from your body trying to get rid of it making even more sticky, the pulmozime breaks that up.
HS works to just make you cough up the junk that is already loose so the two working together is most productive, thats why they tell you to do albuterol first to get the passageways open, then pulmozime to break it up and then HS to get it out and then the vest to break loose/cough up anything else it can.
I wouldn't recomend skipping one or the other because in the long run it won't do you any good even if you can't feel the difference it makes. If you insist on skipping one or the other skip the HS because it can sort of be replaced by the vest or equivolent. Before you decide to skip it though, use it for a couple of weeks to see if you think it's something you can afford to not do

Thank you again for all of the input. I am feeling like such a bad mom for not keeping up with our pulmozyme the last few weeks. I know that compliance is half the battle and all of your comments have helped me get back on track emotionally. I feel guilty that this has become about me emotionally.,.,.isn't this my son's disease? I take care of him in every other way.,,,never skip any of his oral meds....love him more than myself...I guess I just needed a good old fashioned wake up call. This disease is going to progress. Case Closed. Back to 100% compliance starting today. Productive cough or nonproductive cough.

if you question why you're doing all these meds when he's so healthy..... that's when you know you're playing the CF game correctly
