Yea I'm thinking about asking my doctor for it when I go next month. What exactly is the difference between HTS and albuterol/atrovent? Does anybody know if the state CF program covers it, or is it out of pocket?

solo: Hypertonic saline restores the water-balance within the lungs. By increasing the salinity on the surface of the airways, it draws water in to compensate for the extra salt, thinning the mucus and making it easier to cough out. Albuterol is a fast-acting bronchodilator which calms spasms quickly and opens up airways. It does not act upon the mucus itself. A plus about the saline is it's pretty cheap. I'm not sure about coverage, I'm sure someone else can better answer that for you! HTS is very beneficial, especially for something so simple! Definitely ask about it
Emma- I'm so glad your numbers are up! Congrats, and stay healthy!

To add to juliepie:

Our cilia that line our airways are generally paralyzed by thick, sticky mucus. The layer of water that is drawn out to the airways actually allows some cilia to begin beating again, which enables our natural mucus removing system (cilia) to move the mucus out of the lungs to cough up.

In terms of if HTS is covered by the state health insurance, each of the 50 states has a different formulary, so it's going to depend on which state you live in
