Hypertonic Saline

My nephew and niece are compounding pharmacists and they checked into the process Foundation Care uses in preparing the HTS and told me that they had no reservations about them preparing it for me. They would have prepared the HTS for me if they themselves had the proper equipment but they work for a very small compounding pharmacy and they do not the equipment to do so that would ensure sterility of the HTS.

Wow, thank you guys so much. I never checked with insurance because I was under the impression they would never cover it. Thanks for all the great info. IF anyone else has some info, please share. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I just wanted to say thanks for all the info. I ended up getting it from Foundation Care and I must say...WOW...they are a really great company from what I can tell. We called prior to ordering the saline and gave them the third degree on sterilization and how they make sure they are keeping products sterile. They were totally fine with us asking. They said they compound all meds in a completely sterile room. They do not use distilled water (which many smaller pharmacies do). They only use hospital grade sterile water. They are a pharmacy competely for people with respiratory issues... mainly CF and are very careful with sterlization policies, because they "do not want to add to our stress". They are very aware of the need to be careful of contamination and they aren't a smaller operation so they have the capabiltiies and technology to compound medications in a sterile environment.... Sounds good to me. They're really helpful and knowledgable. A++

I got my saline yesterday and about to try it. They are prepackaged in indivdual 7% vials, like albuterol.

I get 5% premixed in iv bags from the hospital pharmacy it only costs me like $6 or something... but then again i'm in canada, maybe it's different here

I'm glad that you called Foundation Care and had all your concerns addressed, Chantel. You will be very happy with their service. I also like how they call near refill time so that I do not have to even be on top of that. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
