Hypertonic Saline

What percentage of HTS do you use? If you have tried different concentrations, what differences have you noticed? Also, where in your treatment course do you use the HTS (i.e. pre-, during-, post-vest; before/after inhaled antibiotics; etc.)? Anyone use both HTS and pulmazyne?

Also, my husband is a bleeder...so anyone have problems with HTS and bleeding (or with pulmazyne)? My husband usually stops (at his docs direction) nebs meds when he is bleeding already...but I am wondering about general bleeding and whether people have had HTS cause bleeding, etc.

My husband used HTS a long time ago (before it was cool), but hasn't used it in the past 5 or so years. I am encouraging him to talk to his docs about starting it again, so I want to go in with as much info as possible.

Thanks!

Hi,

I use 7% Hypertonic Saline. I can't use Pulmozyme anymore because we found out that it was causing my bleeds.

I do not bleed with Hypertonic Saline.

None of the above. I use 10%, and have posted on this topic before. I found myself getting used to 7%, and not being as productive. I emailed the principle investigator of the UNC study, and asked how and why 7% was chosen, and if it was reasonable to move up to 10%. Bottom line, 7% was a compromise of what was effective and what was tolerated, but for those who can tolerate it, the higher concentration does work better.
