I get to speak at the Great Strides walk....

I'm SO excited and thankful for this opportunity. I get to get up on stage and say a few words and many thank you's to the volunteers, walkers, and financial contributors to the GS walk.
So help me, I'm not a great speaker. I want to introduce myself, thank them, and then tell them that I have CF (I don't look like I have CF), and tell them how touching it is to see all of these people out there working to save my life and the lives of their loved ones. I want it to be meaningful to know what it means to me that they are working hard to raise $.
I want to say that I'm a wife, sister, daughter, friend, aunt, etc and that all of those people are working hard to raise $ for a cure also. And last of all, I'm a CF patient.
Does anyone have any decent speech ideas to get my point across in a meaningful way? I'm not good at this but I'm also not willing to waste this opportunity to thank the volunteers who are so awesome.
Thanks.

I don't have a whole lot of time to reply, (esp. without making up a speech of my own), but I would suggest that along with many CF patients who are young, there are also many "older" cf patients out there who have already benefited from the dedicated people who have put their time in for raising money for research to extend their lifespan...and hope the raising of money can continue to help out those younger CF patients to see adulthood.

Other than maybe putting in more detail to how CF research, etc., has helped you..I can't add much more off the top of my head

Oh, and good luck!

That sounds perfect! What a nice opportunity. Someone on this site posted a speech they made once- sorry I can't recall who it was.

One suggestion about what NOT to say... A speaker at our walk one year went into detail about her health issues and how she was not expected to live long. It really freaked my kids out who were very young at the time.

Good luck!

Right on, I don't want to scare any small children. Why would some one say such things?! Oh my.
I'll keep my detailed medical history to myself. lol.
Thanks, Jane.
