I got my port

I have an arm port that has been going strong for 8 years and shows no sign of puttering out, so don't be too worried. I love love love having it my arm, although I can't remember why I was so dead-set on not having a central line at the time I got it in. I guess being an 18 year old female made me self-conscious about my chest. The only real disadvantage is that depending on how long the tubing is it can be tough to connect your own meds. I always do a "test run" before the homecare nurse leaves so I don't end up having to call a friend!

Good luck with your new port. I hope it works well for a long time and that the IVs make you feel better super fast!

Congrats, I'm glad everything went so well. I used to have a port in my left forearm...it lasted over 10 years! Now I have one in my chest and you can't really see it a whole lot, you basically just see the scar.
I hope this lasts a LONG time for you and it continues to work so well. Ports are SO much better than little needle sticks or Picc lines all the time!

Piper,
I had extension tubing attached so it is not a problem to access myself. Otherwise, you are correct, I would not have been able to hook up my own meds.

I'm glad everything turned out ok for you with the port, though I'm sorry you had to be so sick you went into the hospital. I hope you are feeling beter by now--good luck with the home IV's..
