I did not consult my OBGYN about pregnancy because I knew that when I was pregnant or seeking pregnancy I would be working with the high risk group at the big hospital with my cf center not my GYN in an medical office bldg.

Once we were ready to try to get pregnant (and I'd cleared it with my doctor) we went to MFM for a consult. We wanted to meet the group before pitching up pregnant. Knowing they had lots of experience delivering cf moms babies I also wanted to hear that I was doing EVERYTHING right.

For the consult they sent in the head of the MFM dept. She's a beautiful very dominant personality who has no problem telling it how it is...or could be. With a smile to boot (don't you hate those types?) The group is very ethical and I believe hope to scare most people away with known risk. So after she told us all the negative possibilities and saw that we didn't flinch and heard that we'd discussed all the points prior to the meeting she basically showed us around and told us to come back when we were pregnant. If not pregnant within 6 months she (and my doctor) suggested we seek fertility help. It should be noted though that my cf doc did not recommend multiples for me (ie I would have had to reduce to get his support). I was pregnant within the month
Edited to add: The reason I was only given 6 mo to get pregnant (when they said a healthy mom would need to try for 12 mo before seeking fertility help) was because my FEV1 of 67% was deemed too low to wait any longer.
