I know some will say it's not worth keeping the pet if it compromises your health, but for me, my dogs are one of the keys to my happiness. They've seen me through so much and help keep me sane!</end quote></div>

I agree! Animals have always been apart of my life and I want that for my daughter. They offer so much by means of companionship, responsibility, compassion etc.

I have seen a difference in the kids who come to our house ..... a difference between those who have animals at home and those that dont.

Thanks everyone, I'm so attached to Marley (I also call him Moo-Moo) I can't see myself giving him up. He is my child, he makes me smile all the time! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> I'll wait to see whay my doc says. Here's the story of his adoption, he's the first one you'll see.

jennifer,

we are very similar. i have cf, cfrd, asthma (not officially diagnosed, however), and a pet lover with mucho allergies! i just found out allergy testing about 6 months ago. i have 2 dogs, 3 cats and a bunny.

i have done the HEPA, the casings, still working on keeping the pet hair under control in the house. i take allegra, singulair, and flonase. there is a long list of things i haven't done, like keeping the pets out of the bedroom (please!).

i am also hoping to start allergy shots soon. and also to get a HEPA vacuum that will help with my cleaning irritation.

i would never give up my cats. no way. so for me, allergy shots is a good option. i do worry that the allergy triggers may be having an effect on my lungs that i can't necessarily see in symptoms. on a daily basis i don't have allergy symptoms.

as a side note, my doctor told me yesteday that if i get a port, i will have to get my cats declawed. such insanity! the idea is that one cat scratch on the port could lead to a very serious blood infection. seems unlikely. anyway, i'd never get my cats declawed, either. besides, they make those little claw-casings now that would do the trick.

Advair and singulair have also helped me tremendously with my (non animal) allergies! I love your (everybody's) cats' names! lol

I will check in with my cat forum and see if anyone has any suggestions that haven't been mentioned yet. It may take a day or 2 though .
