Even if your dad can't walk, maybe he could help at the walk with helping at the registration table. My MIL doesn't walk, but last year she and her sister were in charge of the snacks/break station. They've helped with registration, setting up food, handing out t-shirts. And while everyone is walking, they have an opportunity to visit with CFers and families of CFers and to hear their stories.

Tina,

All I can say is ((hugs)) to you and your family. I understand all too well what it feels like to find out that more than one of your children has CF...The shock of the second was definately as crushing as the first and I thought for sure my heart was broken.

I am sorry to hear that your parents are having a tough time understanding all this and what it means to your family. I agree to see if the foundation can get you a video to show them. Maybe invite your mom to go to your kids CF clinic appt. And trust me, when you have a few kids, or in your case a few more than a few, it helps to have the extra hands with you to run kids to the bathroom when your busy with the doctors or to just help out so you have more time to remember to ask questions or to help you write down notes. And she will get a little eductated in the process.

I was speaking with a friend this morning and she said the same thing. Even though my dad can't walk he can help out somewhere. I didn't know what to expect at a Great STrides walk because we have never been to one. I figured there must be something he can do to help out that day. It should be fun right? I will talk to our cordinator about getting my dad signed up for something.

Its just so hard to not be able to express our concern's with my own family because they dont even think it's really there. Luckily, I have a great support system here within my own home. My 5 year old, who doesnt quite understand what cf is, came up to me the other day and asked if he would have to do the same things as Dylan. I hugged him and told him "yes" and he just sighed and said "darn it".

I talked to the all three schools last week to set up a 504 plan for all of them. The only school I am having a hard time with is the Elementary. I can't get all the teachers who are going to be with my two son's for the next 9 months to get involved. The gym teacher, art, and classes other then their normal teacher didnt come to the 504 last year for Dylan. I had his current teacher there, his teacher for this year, and the principle. Not one of the other teachers showed up. How discouraging. And these teacher are going to be responcible for my children when I am not there??? I contacted someone within the school district to find out if the superintendant can make it manditory. Hopefully I will hear soon.

Take care, Tina
