i prefer PICC over IV, only because i hate being stuck...and the PICC line you really dont feel much getting it in; at least not for me, its just a little uncomfortable pressure (and i mean little, although every person is different) after they ultrasound for a good vein. and when u get it out...its like spreading butter on your bread, u dont even feel it. i remember i was sooooo scared of getting the line out on my first time, and i was like freaking out and almost in tears cuz i was afraid it was gonna hurt, and the nurse was like im gonna count to 3 and im gonna pull it out...and she counted, and i relaxed once it was "done" then she told me she had pulled it out 5 mins previous...i was so worked up over nothing!

I would go with a Picc plus then you can be home and doing your meds. I feel your pain on the pregnancy thing, it is scary having to go through this when you havent had a picc in forever. Plus i would get in and out of the hospital as fast as you can, unless they need to monitor you for something. Plus you can get lots of germs staying there. When i was pregnant i had to be on Picc for 3 weeks, but it was well worth the health of my baby. Good Luck!

Picc lines are wonderful. they use an ultrasound to find the vein and then once they find it, it is a little prick to numb the vein and then they place the picc and you do not feel a thing! The anxiety comes from all the prep work they have to do. But it is a piece of cake, user friendly, can be in your arm like forever and just all in all is the next best thing to a port. Constant sticking of a peripheral line stinks. Maybe re-think and ask questions to your IV team, cause you will be happy with a picc and it is easier on the vein with the strong drugs that we CF'rs are on versus the old fashion IV. Good luck on your decision and sorry you are feeling bad!

Def go with a PICC. They will most likely not let you go home without one. I had to wait to get a PICC placed last time I went in and the IVs just didn't do the trick. They would last maybe 2-3 doses of the meds and then they would blow becoming very painful and swollen. Once the PICC was placed I was also able to go home...they wouldn't have let me do meds through an IV at home. Good luck!

I had 3 piccs while preggo also. I was on Ceftazidime, Tobra and something else... I can't remember. I had to be hospitalized the whole time. It was nice in a way, because they let me hear the baby's heartbeat every day. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">
