Ditto on taking her in. Not to scare you, but I'd be concerned about RSV! It's been going around our area lately. Have you been taught how to do CPT on her yet.

If it happens again before you get her in and you don't know how to do CPT, but her on your shoulder or in your lap and pretend you're BURPING her. Give her a few good healthy wacks on the shoulder blades/upper back but avoid the spine, can also sit her up and tap her with your index and middle finger just below her colar bone.

Is her nose stuffed up? If so, you probably want to use a bulb syringe to get rid of the boogers. Is she breathing fast when resting?

I would be very concerned. They want you to wait til Wed? Did you tell them she was turning blue? I don't think you should wait at all! My daughter has been very congested and can cough pretty hard...sometimes concerning...but NEVER turned blue! I would freak out!
I hope she can get the care she needs and starts feeling better.

thanks for the in put guys! they havent taught me the cpts yet , but while burping i tend to "beat " her for prolly a good 15-30 mins. i figured that would help things, were not on inhaled meds yet but im going to talk to them at our appt. they said they were going to take one step at a time so i didnt get overwhelmed, ive been doing this stuff all my life, i know that babys are different then ,bigger cf'ers but i know i can do it. the doc that saw her last time said that babys tend to hold there breaths some times when they cough. i dont know. it doesnt seem right to me.. some times it seems like she pants some times in a segment of 3 quick little pants then shes done , her nose seems clean , as far as an infection i have no clue,no fever ,shes not fussy , so i dont know when breastfeeding shell eat till she gets full and spits it out, or if she falls asleep shell keep it in her mouth , and suckle on it everyonce in a while when you try to pull it out.. ive cultured phsoumous (sp) in the past if i was to culture it again do you think she could have it ,and that be causing it? she wasnt a preemie , she was almost a week late.. would that effect her lungs? im sort of just blundering this stuff and dont know much .. sorry

OK, I'll see if I have any input for you that can help:

Has she had a complete workup yet at a pediatric cf center? I know they said they were taking things one step at a time... how much have you learned about her status since her dx? Who is following her now? Or is Wed. her first workup?

Babies can sputter and gag a little when they cough and make all kinds of weird noises. But I wouldn't accept the breath-holding explanation and ESPECIALLY not the breath-holding to the point of turning blue. This has to be looked into. Granted, a toddler can deliberately hold their breath, even to the point where they pass out, esp if they know it will make mommy hysterical. But you have a newborn/very young infant. There is a world of difference there...!! I am really irritated at that dr for suggesting this isn't to be concerned about.

She sounds like she's nursing well. Good for you.

Being born full-term is great for giving her the best odds for well-developed lungs.

Not being fussy is very good; keep being aware of this. Babies are often very subtle but you can tell a lot in energy levels and in how happy or unhappy they are. Even if they don't have a fever, if they suddenly start acting very sleepy, listless, don't want to eat, stop smiling (once they start), don't want to snuggle like usual, start crying much more- often that is a bigger red flag of something being wrong than 'obvious' signs like a fever or throwing up.

Don't apologize or feel like you are 'blundering.' This is all so new to you and you are learning as you go. We are here for you for any questions you have whether they are cf-related or not.
