Infant PFT

Tyler had the infant PFT done yesterday and he did great! His lung function was in the 130's! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> Well my question is for those who's child has had this done before how were they afterwards...like the next day? Tyler has been alittle cranky and VERY sleepy. Maybe its the stuff they had to give him for the test to make him drowsy? We had to keep him up late the night before and got him up early for the test the next day. Just wondering how long it takes them to get back to normal?

I didnt even know infants could get lung functions tested. I wonder why our doctor has not tested my sons. What did you have to do to get one done?

Thats Great you have a base line on your son. Most clinics do not do Infant PFTs because its a newer thing and most are not trained in it.We had one doctor in our clinic who did them but is no longer here. none of the others do it.

His Dr. suggested it, but it was our choice and I thought it would be a good idea to do. It doesn't hurt them, we went in to clinic around 8:30am and we got signed in like we normally do and they weighed him and measured him then they talked to us about it and what to expect then we took him into a room with this machine that he lays in. The Dr. gave him some meds that just made him drowsy(oh yeah we were told to keep him up late the night before and get him up early so that he would be sleep deprived and sleep through the testand he couldn't eat or drink anything 6-8hrs before)and I held him until he fell asleep then they layed him down and hooked him up and put a vest on him..we had to leave the room after that. The vest pushed air out and he had a mask on that would test his lung function.. It took a couple hours to do, but well worth it! He was totally fine afterwards, but was a little loopy for the rest of the day! I would def. ask your clinic if they do it!

Its done here in Australia too. Trouble is they can only do it to a certain age/weight (about 3). So theres a gap in lung function from three til 5 or 6 when they can Blow to measure lung function.
Are annual Bronchoscopy's the norm there too??..
