When I had a doctor treat me the way you're describing, not only did I make sure I never had to see her again, I told the other, more established CF docs about my experiences with her. Turns out she was a problem for several patients and ended up being fired!! Now I don't know what kind of malpractice she committed to have been fired, but obviously I wasn't the only one who had problems with her.

Of course it depends on your situation and the general "feel" of your clinic whether or not you can safely reveal her shortcomings to her superiors. For me, I knew my doctor was wrong and I knew other patients may not be so aware about their own health care or might be less likely to speak up. And I knew I wasn't willing to put my health at risk by continuing to keep her as a physician.

Whatever you decide, you absolutely do have the right to switch doctors. ha, even now there are two docs at my current clinic and I just plain don't like one of them. He's not a bad guy or anything, I just like the other guy better and I refuse to see the doc I don't like. Nobody gives me any grief about it.

One more thing...that doc I had that ended up being fired? She insisted on giving me the wrong medication and I actually had to call another doc from my hospital bed to make sure I got what I needed. I am guessing the good doctor had to "rescue" many of the bad doctor's patients, because after the bad doc was fired, she sued the hospital and named the good doctor in her suit. I'm happy to report, bad doc LOST!

Texasgirl:

Is there anything going on here with you not doing or the doctor thinking you are not doing what she orders? Meds and vest? Just a thought.

Also, why is the doctor in the room when you do your breathing test? at our clinic you go do that first w/ the Respiratory Therapist before you see the doctor. How are are FEV1s?

Finally, if you don't like the doctor change. You dont have to explain to anyone. You are the consumer.

I did the same thing Quackie did.

I had a pedi doctor I loved and another I hated - so I told the one I loved that I loved her only and didn't like that other dr! And I didn't see the other terrible doctor for a good five years after that, when she stopped by while I was at the hospital.

Try something like that! Don't see someone who makes you unhappy, that's not healthy. Change clinics if you have to.

Alternately, I had an adult CF dr who made this comment EVERY time I saw him: "You're a beautiful girl, why are you on anti-depressants?" I can't tell you how angry it made me, but I didn't see him all that much. A year ago, however, he had to hospitalize me (appendicitis), so I had to spend more time with him, and I said, "Hey, Dr. K, if you want to compliment me, why don't you tell me how SMART I am. Stop telling me I'm beautiful." It's mostly worked and now we're great friends.
