Insulin...Injection or pills?

I was on shots for a while, then some doctor tried putting me on prandin during one of my hospital visits. I've been on that ever since. It works... mostly ok, I think. The only problem is that it seems to make me very prone to lows.

It's a shame we can't do the inhaled stuff, never heard of that before. Just pop it in the neb with your saline or whatever. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">

Nathan was on shots, just switched to the insulin pump 4 months ago, we highly recommend the pump! Its the best! He has finally been able to gain some weight and keep it on with the pump!

Hi!

I thought I would add my 2 cents in here...

I was dx with r/D at age 14 and they put me on shots. It was a small needle, and you place in a pen.. it was fine, I did shots 2x a day. Than when I was 26, my diabetes spun out of control ( I had alot going on in my life at the time) and I was on shots 5x a day!! It was way to much and I hated it!

I swtiched endro's ( which made a HUGE difference as well) and they put me on the pump. My A1C went from a 13.. (!!!) to a 6.5 in 3 months! I love my pump, I can't imagine how I lived so long without it. It has made my life so much easier! Esp. now that in the near future we will be trying for a baby, my diabetes is so much easier to control and will be when we are pregnant.

You do have to be VERY compliant with the pump. It is not an easy fix. I carry around extra infusion sets, batteries, insulin.. just in case. As far as control on my sugars it is wonderful. For me, sugars are a direct correlation to my lungs. If my sugars are out of wack, my lungs feel it.

I have never been on the pill for insulin, so I don't have anything to compare it to. Comparing the pump to shots, for me, has made my life a lot easier and less to worry about.
