Insurance denying Dietician

I just wanted to put in that when DS was first born and we were going to our first clinic, they gave us the option of seeing the Dietician or not because they knew it wouldn't be covered under insurance.
Being a first time mom to a CFer, I said no, because I didn't want to pay the bill when I was just feeding him breastmilk...boy was I wrong.
We have seen the Dietician more than any other specialist. I'm not sure how the clinic got around it, or maybe it is because our insurance changed, but we now see her and don't get charged.

I would definitely appeal it. Especially because they allow people with elective surgery to see them. They need to know that seeing the Dietician/Nutritionist could possibly keep your little one out of the hospital (g-tube or other reasons). I'm sure they wouldn't want to pay that bill.

Appeal, appeal, and appeal some more. Our dietician knows my voice on her voice mail we've spoken so much. Especially since your dd is just coming to the point where she will be eating real food.

We always get one clinic co-pay, nothing is itemized and I don't pay more for the nutritionist unless we go in JUST to see her. Then I pay her office a co-pay instead.

It has been my experience thus far that the insurance companies will routinely deny something out of nowhere. . . I think they want to check if you are paying attention.

Ours approved our vest made three months of payments and then denied further payment, saying we were only approved to have the vest for 90 days!!! Several phone calls to Hill-Rom, the insurance company and letters from my doc and RT got things straightened out. I swear they bank on those that will just go with the flow and accept a denial.

The u of Minnesota Clinic bills strangely. Each time we go I get one bill from the University of Minnesota Physicians and a seperate one from Fairview Hospital. The dietician is on the Fairview bill and it is itemized.

The charge to see the dietician is $53 for each visit and we have seen her 4 times this year.

We are not asked when/if we want to see her. If she is available, she stops in to the room. I am fine with that. She is wonderful and I get great information from her!

I will pay the $53 each time if I need to. But I am going to definately appeal and see if we can get the insurance company to pay it instead because I don't think it is fair if they do pay for some conditions but not CF.
