Insurance enrollment

I take out $1,750 a year pre tax. We normally blow through it by Sept. I hope everyone realizes that it is so important to check your insurance every year for changes at enrollment time. This year the formulary for my drug plan changed and the want my son to take the generic form of Creon. So I am currently fighting them to keep on the regular. Last year Nemours was fighting over a new contract with Blue Cross Blue Shield and would not accept Nemours as in network. Every year it is something new. Just remember dont take NO for an answer. Contact your employer to get waivers and get a health care case manager with your health care provider to review things. I have used then both in the past.

I had a flex spending acct last year & by the time I submit paper claims I used it up by August. I held out $3500 but my insurance also has a $5000 deductible & they give you a $2500 HRA which means you really only have a $2500 out of pocket deductible & preventative care is covered 100% & after you meet your deductible the plan pays 50% & then I pay the other 50%--it really added up. One thing to be careful about with Flex is the use it or loose it policy, with CF I don't imagine anyone would not use it but if you elect too much you don't get your money back--it gets to go to good ole uncle sam

as far as the VEST goes I just went through open enrollment & we only use one insurance company but I went to my HR & they told me that if I even switch plans my VEST would come up for "review" so I chose to stay with the same plan but I got a Hillrom & they are pretty good about letting you keep it. I personally pay $200 month for my VEST & I'm not sure what my insurance pays.

my daughter is also seen at Nemours in FL & I was so thankful that we didn't have blue cross last year even though it ended up getting worked out & the BC patients were reimbursed I believe. I remember someone from here (faith4liliana) also goes to Nemours in FL & had a problem with BC

I put away $2400 each year and always use it up which means I probably could put away more. For those that don't know FSA is "use it or loose it." So don't put more away than you can claim. I claim the usual things like drugs and dr. copays but also...
peroxide I use to clean my nebs
gym membership (must have prescription for exercise from doc)
vitamins (must have prescripton even if OTC)

Actually, our flex spending used to be 'use it or lose it", but it's not anymore. If we have money left over we get a three month extension to use it by the end of March.
