Hi Sweetie-
My husband and I got married June 2007 by a civil service in the courthouse. I was with COBRA through my employer and it was coming to the 18 month mark where they drop you.
We were already engaged and decided to tie the knot, so I can be part of his insurance policy. My husband is a police officer and has good benefits.
We had a ceremony and married by a priest this past May in the Bahamas! It was the best of both worlds.
I do have medicare, but that is secondary, as when we got married his plan became my first health care policy. I actually rarely use my medicare card. We do pay a good amount per month in health care, but now we dont have to deal with an annual and lifetime cap.
Plus Cobra was costing me 625$ a month!!
It is unfortunate you have to think about that in a time in your life where you are so excited to get married, but you have to do what you have to do!
