Heidi,

Welcome.

I noticed on your signature line you have a-typical for your daughter -- do you know her genes? How does she differ from your 5 & 7 year old?

My kids are considered a-typical too. My daughter didn't start treatments until age 14, my son just started recently at age 21.

Thank you for the welcome, Alyssa. Your daughter sounds similiar to my oldest daughter. I hope both your childen are doing well.

All three have the same genotype, delta F508 & R117H7T. Where they differ is that my oldest has a different father than my other children. Both, my husband and my oldest's father, are carriers of the delta F508. It is interesting how different the cases are. My 5 & 7 year old had positive sweat tests, whereas my oldest has had negative sweat tests. My oldest was very healthy in her early years while the other two were sick. My 7 year-old has been culturing pseudomonas more times than not for over a year now. None of them are taking enzymes. My oldest seems to have no digestive issues. My 7 year-old eats an enormous amount of food, and seems to always be hungry. My five year-old doesn't eat as much. She has trouble gaining weight. My oldest mostly has problems with stubborn sinus infections that would drag on a long time. Several years ago, I noticed she would clear her throat often. I first noticed this before we knew about any of them having cf. I thought it was a nervous tic or something! My other two with cf have been heavy coughers from the beginning. Unfortunately, we were going to a pediatric practice that did not send many for sweat tests (I found this out later from an acquaintance.) In addition, at the time of their births newborn screening was not done in our state. I just thought my children had extremely bad asthma.
