Is anyone a teacher?

I have been teaching High School for 5 years now. I do not have CF but am a mother of a CFer. Time is also very valuable to me.

I rarely bring home work. Here is how:

1. I make all my copies for the year during the summer before (when no other teachers are at school) I lable them put them in a folder and into a filing cabinet they go.

2. I grade all classwork during class. The kids grade their own, while we go over the answers. (Yeah I know you may be thinking won't they cheat?) I am sure they do but if so their grade will even out when they bomb a test. Besides going over the answers allows me time to explain them really well.

3. All my tests are multiple choice. Scantron is a lifesaver ( you just run it through and its graded)

4. I have a notebook with every lesson for every day. The lesssons are typed and examples of the needed handouts are attached to them with paperclips. (This took me many weeks to complete, but has saved me hours and hours of time in the long run) I just pull out the lesson and go. I keep them in order. Pull them out and when done put them back, flip the page and on to the next.

5. Do not hang out in teacher lounges...they will suck you into complaining and waste your time.

I also agree you should tell the principal about your CF, because they will be more likely to understand if something goes wrong and will have tons of respect (not pity) for you.

Hello everyone, thanks for all of the replies. I am headed to a big teacher recruitment fair for my state tomorrow. I might look into the possibility of part-time, but will probably just look for full-time jobs for now. I can try it for a year and then re-evaluate if needed. I student taught a couple years ago and did just fine with managing everything, but of course I wasn't teaching quite a full load and didn't have some of the added responsibilities that full teachers have. And, if I get a job soon, I will have all summer to plan and get a head start on things. So, I guess I'll see what happens!

I Graduated with a degree in 1982 with a degree in 6-12 and a degree in Child Life. I earned a Bachelors and will never regret one moment of it. Even though I couldn't teach and get married at the same time I quit working to get married and was able to manage. I eventually had to quit all together after about 2 years of teaching. I found I was in the hospital more than in the classroom. But the time I did spend teaching was incredibly rewarding. One thing I realize is that I have become very good at re-inventing myself as the years go on and I become sicker. My advice would be do the best you can and be the best you can be . You can't expect anymore than that. If you have to change your career or give it up for your health and marriage and children, so be it. We should never define ourselves by the work we do. That is only part a small part of the journey.
