Is Atypical CF really all that uncommon?

I was diagnosed later because they were so convinced it was other things for so long. I definitely see the progression the older I get. I, too, was labeled a hypochondriac--even by my regular doctor.

I have not heard of "Atypical CF" before I started reading this forum.

My personal symptoms are "mild" so far, but I know I wouldn't last too long without modern medicine. That fact makes my case seem pretty serious to me. It seems like a good definition of "Atypical" would be "indefinitely functional without antibiotics, yet still have genetically defined CF". ALthough, I might argue that isn't really CF <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

Me neither. I've heard of mild symptoms...LOL...

I think its harmful for people to fool themselves into thinking a progressive disease could be "mild" or "atypical". The symptoms are whats mild, not the disease. By telling yourself or you patients that they have atypical CF breeds false hope. Believe me, when I first came here I saw people talking about mild disease and atypical and I convinced myself that was what I had...

Now; I am not able to work even a 35 hour work week. I have been on STD through work 8 times since last February...Lets just say I found out the hard way...
