Is it self centered?

The blogs & responses about missing out or being disappointed about birthdays got me thinking. I originally had asked my sis, husband, daughter and best friend to plan a 40th birthday for me next year. I wanted food, music, dancing and lots of people. Then I got thinking that I know exactly what I want and expect and wasnt quite sure they could pull it off. Not for lack of trying, but because of people they wouldnt know to invite and such things. So I have since started planning my own party. BUT during the initial stages of taking over I wondered if that was a bit bold of me. To throw my own party. For ME to make MYSELF the center of attention. I guess tacky would be the appropriate description. THEN I decided WHO CARES.......I WANT TO CELEBRATE. I want to share it with those who appreciate the fight and dont care if I make myself the center of attention. Sometimes you have to take the bull by the horns and do it yourself!

When I first saw the title of the thread, I wanted to answer "Yes it is!" without even reading it.

But I read it, and I'm with Allie. It's your birthday, do what you want.

I don't think it's selfish at all. Of course, I told my sister exactly how to plan my 30th birthday party last year! She knows me well enough to know that I am particular and would want to be involved in every aspect of planning it. So, being the great sister she is, she did everything I wanted. If I didn't think she would have done it like I would have, I might have planned my own, too. Okay, so I kinda did plan my own. Anyway, you should get what you want for your birthday, and if that means planning the party yourself, then do it how you want it. Make it a blast and enjoy every bit of it.

No Mel it's not selfish at all.......

I come from a family who never really
did anything big for birthday, sure everybody
got gifts, but no Party...

When I became a father I made sure my Son had some kind of a party.
But I had just one child and He is healthy ( thank God )

I don't want it to sound like my Parents weren't good parents ( They Were !! )
I think that is was having 4 Cf children and having to pay for all
that was involved ( no insurance would cover a Cfer back then )
My father worked 7 days a week to pay for all the meds.
There were no programs back then either...

So I guess they thought Parties were something they could not
spend money on......

So I hope you have a Grand 40th Birthday Party Mel : )

Everyone's Birth Day is a self centered day - it's the day you, and only you, were born. It's the one day out of the whole year that celebrates you being alive! Party away!

The term self centered in this scenario is not a bad thing, it's just the way it is.
