Is it self centered?

Diane,
I LOVE the part about the c'old do not attend' comment. I get so annoyed with people who will come over/ meet somewhere, etc. They will hug me and then go on and on of how horribly sick they have been! Ahhhhhh. It drives me nuts. I don't know why they wouldn't think about this before meeting/hugging. I guess non-CF'ers just think differently.
Good for you for being up front!

Kelli,
I decided to do that after my 40th birthday when a friend of mine brought his wife and she was coughing and all stuffed up. I asked her if it was allergies ( hoping it was ) and she said "no i've been really sick with this bad cough for a few days now". First thing i thought to myself was....Then why are you here ???? I made it a point to avoid her the entire party after hearing that. I decided after that, i had to be sure that didnt happen any more no matter who it offended. So i included it in my invitations for the past 2 years. No-one has ever said anything about it and it did do its job for those who dont know how serious cf is. Two of my friends with kids this year declined because their child had the sniffles or a cold. In perfect honesty i think it should be COMMON courtesy NOT to attend anyones party if you have a bad cold. No-one wants to share in anyones cold misery....lol

I agree, it should be common sense to not go to a party when you are ill to anyone's house, especially to anyone who has CF or other heart or lung issue. I can't tell you how many times my brother has brought his infant son to our house with a cold. I love the little devil, but not enough to get a horrible cold that could easily progress into a nasty bronchitis or pneumonia for me. I think that from now on, I will add that to my invites as well! Thanks for the suggestion. Hugs, Jenn

Honestly, sometimes you need to have those selfish moments in order to appreciate things and like someone else said, take the bull by the horns and just do it urself. had you not admitted you were feeling this way you would have never come to the realization that it's up to you to make ur b-day the best it can be and not rely on other ppl to make it good for you. I don't think it's selfish at all. The first step is admitting that you feel sorry for yourself - and not many ppl can do that!!!

I don't think it's selfish at all! I mean, think about it...when you're turning five you really plan your own...you want certain people there, chances are it's themed with YOUR favorite cartoon or movie character (or whatever you fancied at that age), YOU pick the cake, YOU pick the party favors, YOU pick the colors, etc. I say go for it!
