Is my OB overdoing it?

I'll be having another GTT next Weds at my appt, so I suppose if I have GD, then I won't be concerned about having so many BPP/NST's. I'll definitely talk to my OB this week and see why she feels it's necessary to do so much testing and frequent appts. It might just be their protocol I'm thinking because everything has gone so well for me during the pregnancy so far (knock on wood!). Maybe they're just over-cautious too. From what I've heard from my OB, their CF pts in the past have not done as well as I have during their pregnancies, so maybe they're just used to doing more testing on their CF pts. ???? Who knows.

Thanks everyone!

Great to hear you'll be asking questions at your OB appointment. Don't feel bad ever questioning things when it comes to your health. Especially in pregnancy and labor/delivery. A lot of "practices" in obstetrics are based on tradition and malpractice insurance, not actual data and studies. Remember you are working as a team. Good luck with everything.

my high risk doctor wants to start doing weekly nst on me as well. i start them on wednesday and will have them every week. he said that because of cf he is just wanting to make sure that the placenta doesn't wear out before it's time to deliver. he also told me that generally people with diseases or something along the lines of that are more at risk to having the placenta wear out earlier. so that made me feel better. and not to mention i love see the little guys heart beat. i've already had one nst and it seems he knows because he likes to flip right over the montior that has the sort of spike on it...yea that doesn't feel the best in the world, but oh well. good luck though!!

I'm genuinely curious about this - I have never heard anything like your Dr said about people with diseases are more at risk of having the placenta wear out earlier. Everything I've ever seen on pregnancy and CF has never mentioned that as an issue - ever. I believe it can be a problem with diabetes but only around term (ie 38 weeks and after).

IMO he just sounds overly cautious w/o a real basis in fact. Weekly NSTs are not invasive so I say go for them if they make you more comfortable but I still don't think they're even close to being necessary for a *normal* pregnancy, CF or not.
