Is my OB overdoing it?

I wonder if her doc is referring to the fact that women with Cf tend to deliver earlier? Though if you look at the boards here it seems to be less true. Anyway, maybe that's why he thinks that - but both my kids were early and both my placentas were healthy and beautiful, so who knows....? OBs know so little about CF moms still, it irks me when I read some of this stuff. I know they mean well and want to err on the side of caution, but still.

Candice,

Good to know I'm not the only one that has an OB wanting weekly NST's. Not sure why yours mentioned the placenta wearing out...but maybe there has been some research done on that or something. I was just told that having a chronic disease can cause preterm labor due to bodily stress, fighting infection, yada yada. I think these OB's need to give us more credit, darn it! I think sometimes they treat us like having a baby is so taboo (which don't get me wrong, it is hard on the body), but I think we're some pretty tough girls and we can handle it <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I could see this being true for someone who wasn't in good health. Most women w/ CF who get pregnant tend to be in good health and stay that way through the course of the pregnancy (of course there are times when we need antibiotics for an infection). For someone like Charlotte I could see her being at risk for preterm labor because she's really sick.

I still stick by my stance that for the average healthy CF pregnancy, there isn't any additional risk of placental problems or anything of the like.
