I am not sure if you use a microwave to heat foods and liquids but If I had a baby I would never use a micro. I stopped using a microwave ten years ago when I went to this doctor who deals in holistic med and he said I can tell you use a mircowave oven and I freaked and never used one again. It robs the body of nutrients and to me it is like nuking yourself. Do some reading on this if you decide to use microwave and I know pregnant mothers are not suppose to be near one when it is turned on.

You NEVER use a microwave to heat formula or baby food. It heats the liquids and food unevenly and can burn the babies mouth.

The making babyfood is another one I had thought about making. My mom made mine when I was little, so I'm going to ask her what she did/how she did it. Freezing it in icecube trays is a great idea Terri, thanks.

I imagine we'll need to buy some jars of babyfood so we have some jars to use, but I don't plan on buying a lot.

And someone had recommended a crockpot to us for heaing up bottles, one to keep in the nursery and one downstairs. So, I'm going to look for an additional one at a garage sale this weekend. I've heard, "no bottles in the microwave" so I won't be doing that. Thanks Risa and everyone else for reinforcing that .

Thanks everyone for all the recommendations, I can see already how this will save us every week. Every little bit helps!!!!

So much great advice here...boy, I didn't even think of alot of some of the things mentioned (such as the home made wipes...would have saved a fortune!) from some of the members. I don't think what you are doing is tacky in the least bit. Here's why...when I was put on a vent and subsequently transferred to a nursing home, my mom needed to make alot of of adjustments to her home to get me home. The newspaper and radio did a wonderful story about our situation and in no time at all, we had the funds for a ramp and other crucial renovations along with donated labor from about 8 carpenters so that we didn't have to pay labor. I am forever in my community's debt for what they did for us. They even adopted us for Christmas, the looks on the kid's faces were priceless. I was overwhelmed with their generosity as well. So, do look to your community..you will be so surprised what might come of this if Mark agrees to be in the spotlight with yourself and the miracles. I felt the same way as you did when a good friend who happened to work with the radio station approached our family and told us what he wanted to do. So I say go for it!
Garage sales...definitely worth it...I found most of my children's baby items circling the neighborhoods.
I think gift cards are a great idea, that way, you can spend them on the items you need at that time.
I know you must feel overwhelmed as that magical date gets closer, I know I would too. hang in there my friend, I am thinking of you. Hugs, Jenn
