I also have horrible, horrible joint pain .. its been really bad for a couple months now. I also thought it was my vitamin levels for a while..turns out after all types of bloodwork, my vitamin levels were pretty normal, I am only low on vitamin D .. so i was put on 5,000 IU a day. Well..whatya know .. ive been taking it for about a month now, and no difference .. i also have cfrd, and my blood sugars were very elevated back in august, but theyve come down alot since then, and still .. excruciating joint pain. I complain about it everytime i go to the doctor, and they just kind of brush it off..and it really pisses me off because its become so bad that i can barely ever sleep at night because im in such pain, and i dont know what to do..i recently have been having unbearable pain in my legs, like my calves, knees and ankles..and it hurts sooo bad .. i am at such a loss, its like nobody can figure out what is wrong with me .. im ready to like go to a pain management clinic i dont even know anymore, im in such horrible pain all the time i feel like i have arthritis and im 90 </end quote>

im sorry to hear that...im 23 and feel like im 90 so i can only imagine what you really feel like...i have the same issues and its NEVER gone away, i've had this problem since i was 15 and its only getting worse..i had a bone density scan done at 15..they DX me with oseoprosis..and now my wrist get to where they pop outta place and brings me to tears..i talked to my doctor they didnt do any kind of test but he told me that most likely i have arthiritis i've not found anything to ease the pain like i want it to..i have found that a heating pad..or heating blanket helps it alot especially during the winter because this cold weather is NOT helpint at all..its only making it worse for EVERYBODY..i hope you find something or i hope you get test done soon..and stay ontop of your doctor complain about it all the time thats what i had to do ..and you might just have to go see a bone doctor for that...good luck...(MERRY CHRISTMAS)

I am on neither Levaqin or Cipro. It sounds like once it starts it doesn't go away. Bummer! Aleve, IB Profin and Tylenol are not working, but I always feel nauseated or medicine head on pain pills. I guess I will just try to cope, but I know what you mean about feeling 90. I am falling apart at the seams.

I suffered for years with really bad joint pain. All rheumatoid arthritis tests came back inconclusive and no doctors were ever able to figure out what caused it. The only thing that ever worked for it was Prednisone.

I can totally relate!

I have the worst joint pain...off and on. It seems more on than off lately! I do think it correlates with the abx I am on and/or infection. I am on Plaquenil for it...but 8 months and I can't tell a difference.I think the only thing that helps me is Prednisone and some pain killer. Usually Ibprofin, and when it gets really bad some Percocet.

Mine jumps all over the place too. Have you noticed that mainly female CF patients complain about this? Weird...

You could try doxycycline. It's an alternative treatment for joint pain that many people use. For more information on the protocols, the studies and the doctors who have done trials with this for many types of arthritis, please see <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://roadback.org/.

Doxycycline is also in clinical trials for CF, because of its antiinflammatory properties.

I had the same issue with an extremely low Vitamin D level. We had no idea, I was also checked for RA, etc. It was some of the most painful moments I've ever felt! I would wake up in the morning completely stiff, my parents had to lift me out of bed and carry me to the living room to try to work my joints. My hands looked like crab hands! No joke!

After all was said and done, I was put on Celebrex for a month and was treated for low Vitamin D. It stopped it all. I was so relieved. Now of course I still have some joint pain like everyone else here responding, just not as intense.

Thank you for all of your responses. Since starting my Vit D regimen and Lantus at night, I have had much less joint pain already. I will definitely check out doxycycline bookworm, since it may also benefit CF. And thanks for the encouraging comments Kristen. I hope this vitamin D works for the long term.

Jeana,
Ditto Kristen with the same symptoms and on the vitamin D. I have had CFRA since a teen. I'm 41 now. Additional Vitamin D started a little over a year ago. Much much less symptomatic and totally decreased intensity of the pain. It took a few months of consistent supplementation to kick in. Still have some "episodes" but much more bearable. Prior to Vitamin D, Prednisone was the only thing that helped. Thankfully, so far, Vitamin D has helped tremendously.
Glad to hear you are already better!!
