Hey everybody my name is Cody. I'm 23 and I live in Oklahoma. Around 2 weeks ago I got listed for transplant because my FEV1 is in the low 20's. I just recently got out of a 43 day stay in the hospital and while I was there my FEV1 was 17%! I'm so ready for this surgery because I want to be alive again. I remember when I was younger and how I could run and jump and just have a good time. These days its a major struggle to just take a shower or get dressed. The main reason I'm posting this is to find out what it's like waking up post transplant. I'm so scared and nervous about how much pain I'm gonna be in and if the surgery even goes well. Please give me some insight on how it is when you wake up from surgery. Thanks.

Hi Cody, congrats on getting on the list!
I hope you'll get your call soon.

I was scared for years pre transplant. But when the call came, I wasn't anymore.

Waking up post tx wasn't bad for me. I had had an epidural just before going into surgery to treat the pain after. This worked very well for me. I had nearly no pain.

Congratulations on getting listed...it's the best thing to ever happen to me.

I had no pain post TX. I was taking tylenol within a couple days. Don't worry about the pain. Focus your energy on walking everyday and doing squats in a chair. Exercise as much as you can. It will pay off tremendously.

I can run again--just did 3 miles and I'm only 3 months post.

Good luck...let me know if you have any particular question. Again...forget about the pain....there is none esp. when compared to an FEV of 20.
