Rita,
The wait can vary from clinic to clinic. I went to Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and their average wait is 3 months but I waited for 5 months. It really depends on your body type (weight and height) and match to donors. I was 113 lbs and am 5'9" which is pretty good for a short wait, but I was on the list for 5 months because we had to get lungs and liver and we were having trouble getting the liver.

On the other hand, I have a friend who is very short and basically had to wait for either a small adult or child's lungs and she waited at the same clinic for almost 2 years.

Cody,
My sister just had a transplant 4 days ago!! I can't believe how awesome she's doing. She was like you and couldn't do anything without oxygen. And now, she stats better than me! I'm so grateful =)

If you have a Facebook, I'm sure she's be glad to chat with you and give you some fresh, first hand experience as to what to expect. (She doesn't get on the forums at all.)

Its incredible. Thats all I can say. I'm just so excited to see her up off 02 walking around freely. And so soon after transplant!! In a few weeks she's gonna be unreachable!! Haha

Congrats on getting listed! And get ready for that call for a second chance~ I'm sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited for you!

My sister is of this stature with B negative blood type and waited 2 months. Here in Az. it seems to be fairly quick. But they had told us it could be a few months longer because of all these variables weighing against her. They ended up turning down 3 offers for lungs for her before these ones she just got 4 days ago.

I tried to quote transplantmommy but it didn't work. =/ Oh well. =)

Rita, SSD was easy for me. I was listed and #2 at the time. I had just stopped working 2 days before going into the SS office. When they talked to Columbia, I'm sure there was do doubt I was "disabled". The only catch is, I have to wait 6 months before collecting. Not sure if that's a state thing (CT) or a national thing. It sucks. So, apply asap.
