Kawasaki Disease

Long story short, Parker broke out in a rash and fever on Wednesday. Took him to the doc and they said he had Roseola and Pink eye. Started him on the ointment for the eye on Thursday.
Still had a fever Thursday and his rash was not typical of Roseola. It started on his extremeties and face, and finally got to his trunk area Thursday.
Doc wanted me to call and give update yesterday, and before I did, I looked up Roseola again. . . and I was pretty sure it was NOT what he had. I was actually thinking that he might have MEASLES!
So, that was enough to freak me out. I talked to a doctor through the CF clinic who thought that it was still Roseola and there probably wasn't a reason to take him to the hospital, and then a nurse at his physicians office that said that maybe I should take him to the ER.

He was playing well (had Tylenol) and I thought-Eh, he looks FINE.
About an hour later his eyes started swelling badly. He was walking around like he had no idea where he was.

So we took him around 7:00pm last night to the peds hospital where he goes to clinic. When we got there and took his clothes off, he was covered in hives, along with the old red rash. His temp was 102. He was scratching himself all over and so irritable.

By 11pm he had an IV in, lots of blood drawn, and given Benadryl (SP?) through the IV. Doc said it is either a virus or Kawasaki Disease. His labs also pointed to the Kawasaki and we are currently waiting to hear from the doc if he will be diagnosed and treated.

So, I suppose my short story wasn't that short - sorry.

I was just wondering if by any chance someone with CF has experienced this. I have read an article that says that it can cause inflammation of the lungs. He has also been coughing quite a bit, and where it was a dry cough, it seems to be bringing up a little bit of stuff now, but mostly still dry.

I'm thinking that since there are only like 4,000 cases in the US a year, that I might be out of luck finding someone else on the CF board, but had to try.

Thanks!

I've known two young kids with it, but neither had CF as well. I'm so sorry to hear this. I'd think they'll want to keep a close eye on him and bring in the CF team for consult regularly. I know that there is always a concern about the heart, I don't remember hearing much about lung issues related to it.

Please take care of you and that gorgeous guy. And keep us updated, I'll be thinking of you and hoping that this goes quickly and with no residual effects on his lungs or heart.

I had a student with it 6 years ago. I think they linked it to either new carpet or the carpet in his house had been recently cleaned, something about moisture in the carpet. This boy did not have CF. I hope Parker gets better soon!

A friend of mine worked for a carpet cleaning company. She had fliers that she would hand out telling people not to allow their kids on freshly cleaned carpet (wait 24 hours) because it caused Kawasaki Disease.

I've never known anyone with it.

I hope all goes well.
