Ladies Only - Your Cycle and Your CF

For years now, I thought I was crazy. Every time I am PMSing, my asthma, lung function, and my cough all get worse. Every time I go on IVs, I am on my period. I could swear it was related but my old-school doctor just kinda cocked his eyebrow at me when I said something, so I let it go. I had a tubal ligation, 3 years ago, after my second baby. My periods have not really changed, they are pretty normal. But sure enough, every month about a week before, I have a mild exacerbation going on. Sometimes it will totally ease up as soon as I start, but sometimes it only worsens. This post made me feel like maybe I'm not crazy after all! lol

About a week before my period I go to the bathroom ALOT more and no amount of enzymes helps. My breasts also get really tender and it hurts to do my vest. I usually just make sure I am wearing a bra with lots of padding that week to try to help some of the pain. I never noticed the lung function thing but I do get really bloated and it is sometimes harder to take deep breaths. I think I will pay attention this next cycle though now.

I get the hunger about a week before, and my blood sugars go crazy so I have to adjust my insulin levels. As my period approaches, I need more insulin; when it goes away, I need less. I never noticed my lung function being affected... I should probably pay more attention...

Someone on here had a link to an article about that, and it said that Fev1 could go down 5% during that time- and I can't remember who it was for the life of me at this moment (I'll remember tonight, right before I go to sleep probably, lol), sorry! It was a really good link!

I have really bad cramps and sometimes get diarrhea. My GYN told me that a lot of people with CF can have worse PMS and periods than other people. One reason is because our mucus is a lot thicker. Are you on any kind of birth control? The doctor put me on b/c to help with my symptoms. I have a bad problem with getting cysts on my overies. Does anyone else have that problem? I had to have one of my flopean tubes taken out as a teenager. I was having severe ab pain, so they decided to look around. They found the tube stuck to scar tissue which was stuck to bowel. The tube was also stopped up, which is not uncommon for us CFers. I hope you can get that under control.
