Laughing

I haven't been able to laugh without coughing for at least 15 years, even when my lung functions were in the 120's. So yeah you're defanitely not alone. I'm still always laughing though.

I only have this problem when I am having a massive flare up but I think it is caused from us opening up our airways when we laugh and the air loosens the mucus. I know it can be hard or hurt to laugh but I think the coughing is a good thing.

I do laugh a lot, but i also experience the coughing with it which is annoying. The cool thing is .... some of my perfectly healthy friends will cough after they laugh too ,so i dont feel so alone in that. I was trying to read my mom something over the phone that is hillarious 2 weeks ago, called " how to poop at work" I could barely get thru 2 sentences and she'd start laughing and then i'd start and we would both start to cough. If i am feeling well i can laugh pretty good but not like i used to with a rip roaring laugh that brought tears to my eyes. Now it is more of a calm laugh and when i dont feel good its more like a laugh that takes no effort........... no effort = no coughing

I remember with my cf lungs after doing therapy, I had no trouble laughing. When I became sicker, I would hear the junk but I would still keep on laughing.

When I had my transplant, I would fall to the floor laughing. Enjoyed that.

I remember even when I became embarassed with cf lungs and realized I made a fool of myself I would fall to the floor in laughter. Those were the best memories.

I remember one time I laughed so hard that the milk I was drinking came up and out of my nose. That was the good ole cafeteria days at lunch in Junior high.

Laughing is like an internal massage. Just make yourself do it. It is good therapy for your lungs.

I have this problem when I'm particularly junky/sick, or when I have a from-the-gut laugh. I can laugh for a few seconds no problem, but then I usually end one of my long laughs with a trail of coughing. I'm just so used to it, it doesn't bother me unless I'm in the company of someone other then my circle of friends or family.
