1) New York State
2) Combined Life Insurance of New York
3) $25,000 & $15,000
4) $170./year and $73./year

*****IMPORTANT NOTICE~~~Both of these policies were purchased before I had a CF dx on filel. After I took them over at the age or 18 I made the mistake of not paying my premiums. Even tho the premium came out of the cash value, once I "broken the agreement" of not paying the premiums myself, I lost both policies. This gave them the excuse to sneak CF in there. Healthy people wouldnt have this problem. In order to reinstate the policy it would have had been a new policy which wasnt feasible since CF is on their no-no list. SO should you be able to get life insurance DONT EVER EVER EVER LET THE PREMIUM NOT GET PAID EVEN IF IT HAS THE OPTION OF IT COMING OFF THE CASH VALUE!

I have two large policies, and am not really comfortable sharing all the details either...

I will share how I got them though...

My parents were smart enough to sign me up for a policy when I was very young (age 5). The products they chose for me automatically increase in coverage as I age. (ex. between age 5-15, whole life value = 25k, 15-25 = 50k etc). As stated earlier.... Pay your Premiums!!!

Through my employer, we were offered whole life insurance as an employment benefit. For the first 90 days, no medical exam required. I signed up for a lot.
Upon marriage, I also have the option to purchase another 100k no questions asked. This coverage is transeferrable if I ever stop working for this employer.

More importantly, I have disability insurance that will pay 2/3 of my income from date of disability until age 65. This was also obtained from my current employer, and is transferrable. In my opinion, disability insurance is WAY more important for CFers than life insurance... although for the sake of my fiance I do carry both policies.

1. AZ
2. Actually not sure who holds the policy, good question, I have to ask my benefits dept.
3. $144,000 from my employer, $457000 additional (plus the same amounts for accidental death)
4. $760 my cost, free from my employer.

Ah, life insurance - The insurance company bets $600,000 that I will NOT die this year, I bet $760 that I will. It's a bet I'm glad to lose!

There are organizations, like AAA, that may provide some ability to obtain term life insurance. AAA - term life insurance

You'd probably have to join AAA, but you should be able to run their calulator without joining, to see if you can get insured. Look into other organizations, too.

(And for us really old farts who are just too stupid to know when it's our time to go... There's AARP )

If you have a mortgage, ask your lender about adding a death benefit. If I recall, it really wasn't alot of money to add to the monthly payment.

Thanks everyone for sharing the info. I understand people not wanting to share the details, I completely understand.

I am mainly asking because of a friend who's husband has CF and she has GGG triplets, about 8 months older than mine. I'm also curious because I'm wondering if Mark is getting a good deal through our current coverage. Although from teh responsese, it sounds as though for those who have the private coverage, it was before there was a CF diagnosis.

Thanks again for sharing, I appreciate the information.

Hey Julie

1. What state do you live in that this company offers coverage
2. What company do you have that offers coverage
3. What is your benefit amount/type (if you know)
4. Can you please share the approx. amount you spend each month.

1. Georgia
2. Liberty National Insurance
3. 15,000
4. 22.20 a month

We got ours when an insurance sells man stopped by the house. They said they could cover him even though many insurance agents said they couldn't because of his illness. We jumped on it we got the max of 15,000. It will be paid in full when he is like 25 and will have to pay no more on it but it will continue to draw cash val.

Tennessee "GO VOLS!"
Northwestern Mutual for all of us
Our kids have an APB Premium policy that we pay $14 a month each.
They have it now for 25k and it will increase every three years from the time they are 21 years old to when they turn 40. 25k with each 3 year increment.

**We got policies for both when they were babies before we knew Avery had CF.
