Liver Failure

Thank you for your reply... I realy do appreciate it...
He is going to see some specialists next week and they are going to put him on a drug therapy to make up for the lack of liver function.
I've been searching the internet for answers and can't really find too much for liver failure tied with CF...
I can't find anything on the prognosis... I know it isn't great, but jsut an idea would be good.

Sorry to hear about your brother. My husband also has a lot of liver complications due to CF, but it not at liver failure yet. He does have significant cirrhosis though. He is followed by the liver clinic at our hospital. Your brother's clinic should be able to point him to an appropriate specialist. We actually just went there last week for a yearly appointment and talked about the state of his liver and what would happen in the future, etc. I know that one option for my husband, and with CF patients in general, is liver transplant. We talked a lot about transplant at this last appointment and the survival rates and prognosis after transplant were very encouraging. I don't know if transplant would be an option for your brother though.

Try googling "cirrhosis and cystic fibrosis". I did it and looked like it come back with several relevant hits...I just don't have time right now to look at them. I will try to do it later and if I find anything particularly helpful I will post the link.

I will keep your brother and you in my thoughts!

He should also get tested for lack of Alpha-1-Antitrypsin. Its also a genetic disease and it is possible to have both cf and Alpha-1-Antitrypsin deficiancy.
