I was there for the "Big Butt" convo! lol
One suggestion is to do more walking...another would be to balance the meals with less carbohydrates AND carbonated water (Coke is IT!).
I was able to slowly cut down on cola, too. It was actually a bit easy, I made it less available in the house, lol!
Eating more fruits and veggies, especially bananas, might be a worthwhile thing to try.
Also, if you are not in a habit of taking supplements, that may help cut down on some cravings (if my facts are correct, ice cream actually contains a lot of salt).
And, like I'm trying to realize for myself, if by cutting down a bit shows just a little progress, then keep at it..maybe increase it after a while.
I've been trying to drop 5 kg from when I gained during the winter, and besides getting more excercise at work, I've tried to cut down my intake and eat only when I needed it.
Hope that helps out some...

Cindy,

I completely understand your struggle...

I was literally 100 pounds over weight...I am 4'11 and I was weighing 208. Having CF and being overweight does not help at all...my lung function was going down a lot...even with me taking my meds...well my doc told me if I didn't lose weight that he would never even consider me for a lung transplant if I ever needed it. That really hit home...i have a little girl that i truly adore...she is my life and i could not do that to her...leave her early because i refused to watch what i ate...

So I started last May...I already lost 50 pounds. I started with my food intake...and let me tell you I was totally addicted to Coca Cola...i drank it for breakfast, lunch, and before bed...i had easily 9 cans a day...believe me i don't think you are that bad...well i switched it for Diet Pepsi...i prefer it over Diet Coke...even though i use to prefer Coke over regular Pepsi...

Well, after 3 months of watching my food intake i started excersing...even though you hate it believe me once you see the difference and even feel the differnce you will start enjoying it...

Excersing helps you clear out your lungs and funny but it does give you more energy through out the day...i start off my morning with 30 minutes of walking/jogging on the treadmill... And on some evenings i go running with my husband at the park.

God, I am babbling..but i know what you are feeling...so if you have any questions feel free to PM. I would not mind showing you my before pic...funny but i was big...i weigh 158 now...still 50 pounds to go...(possibly another year to lose that because more you loose the slower and harder it gets)...

Hope I was helpful!

Okay, here I am; happy now? lol

When I wanted to lose a few lbs. for my sister's wedding, I traded in my regular snacks (Little Debbie snack cakes, etc.) for fresh fruit and veggies. I kept on hand grape tomatoes, regular tomatoes, cucumber, grapes, apples, oranges, bananas, vidalia onions, carrots, flavored (no calorie) water, diet soda, etc. and didn't buy the other stuff, and ate my meals as usual.

I lost several lbs., but I felt incredibly better without all the sugar (candy is my weakness) in my system, and now I actually crave those fresh fruits and veggies (I can't believe it either, lol, but it's true).

Every once in a while I would have dessert (a few times a week) to keep me from totally "blowing it". Nowadays it is even better because of all the whole grain, low sugar options and things like sugar free pudding, etc. It will take a bit of research on your part to find those things; let me know if you want some of the names of what I have for "snacking on the go" foods that keep my bloodsugar stable and help my hunger .

Oh, and for the excercise...When I got into my early 30's, I realized how physically weak I was compared to when I was in my 20's, and finally got aggravated enough about it that I decided to start swimming. And now that I have a good bit of my strength and some of my energy back, I don't want to stop. It's a love/hate relationship for me, lol .
